Crossroads

Crossroad
Where: My apartment, NYC
When: August 28, 2009
What I Like: The subject, the light, the moment in time, the fact that I took it standing in my living room. I love our apartment!!
What I Don't Like: I didn't have time to get creative with the composition, those sailboats move awfully fast, so I only had that one chance. It was the only shot I took that day, actually. So anyway, I feel like it's a little boring.

I think my favorite thing about this picture is the sail itself - the way the light coming through it creates a feel similar to a leaf up against the light, with veining where the seams are... It does feel very linear though. There's a line from the pylon (I assume that's what it is) at the bottom, up through the sailboat, and on to the setting sun. I think that vertical line makes the picture feel too still and static? But yeah - that is an amazing view from your place!

Thanks! I tried cropping the section with the pylon type thing out, but then there was too little water and too much sky. My first alteration to the composition would be to have more water weighting the bottom. But that option isn't actually available from the apartment - tilting the camera down to get more water would only result in getting rooftops.

I was surprised at the detail in the sail, I didn't think it would come through from that distance.

About This Blog

This is my first blog attempt. It hasn't been kept up over the last year, for some reason being pregnant really ate into my creativity, and I picked up the camera very rarely. I am thinking about starting it up again, but am not sure what direction to take it in.
