Blackout Survival Essentials
Where: Bradford, Vermont
When: Oh my god forever ago - August 26, 2007
What I Like: The composition, the candlelight
What I Don't Like: The noise, but I think any camera would be hard pressed with those lighting conditions.
This was such a fun weekend - lost power from Saturday evening through Monday morning. It was awesome.

I've had a lot more noise than this, very atmospheric. Try increasing ISO, a lot of the problem is sensor heating on long exposures. Not tried it but Topaz do noise reduction software which, according to them, is the business. You can try it for free.
I didn't know that about longer exposures, I always thought the lower the ISO the better the noise? Good tip! I'll try that next time.
I was in your camp for ages, someone advised against long exposures. Aim at something dark and try both. Apparently there are two types of noise, colour or chromatic, and another whose title escapes me. Whatever once there it's a right beggar to get rid of. I also use noise reduction in camera if in doubt. it takes an all black image and somehow compares the two, Just keep playing about in reasonably controlled conditions, all camera models vary. All the best, try not to lose the will to live.
Haha - I'll do my best to keep the spark of life going. Our house got burgled over the weekend too!! The fun never stops over here. Luckily, everything had already been packed and shipped, so it was like getting a hotel room broken into. Laptops, passports, that kind of thing. Passports were returned though - the thieves apparently decided they were too much trouble, and tossed them.
I've just got to make it to Thursday, then I'm home!
