Not a Drop to Drink
Where: Dry river bed, Gorge of Inferno (How awesome is that name??), Vall de Laguar, Spain
When: January 28, 2009
What I Like: The sun, the angle, the texture and the shadows on the rocks.
What I Don't Like: I wish the mountains could have had more detail, but I'm not sure how to get that while still having the sky and sun exposed the way I wanted. Also, I think the composition could use some work, but I'm not sure how. It's close, but something about it is bothering me.

How did you manage to contain the glare from the sun? A special filter? It's excellent work!
Nope, I only have a clear filter on my lenses to protect the lens itself, I haven't gotten into the filter game yet - although it looks like fun!
I was surprised when I looked at the exif for this one, as I expected that, given the star-like rays around the sun, I had used a much smaller aperture than I did. But no, here are the details:
Shutter: 1/400
Aperture: f/9.0
Focal Length: 12 mm
ISO Speed: 160
As I recall, I changed the angle of lens to sun until I wasn't seeing any major flare (sometimes I'll shade the lens with one hand if it gets really bad - I never keep the plastic thing that often comes with a lens, because it always ends up being more annoying than helpful), and adjusted the exposure until the sky was dark enough for my tastes, and the sun was more like a pinprick than a big white blob.
That's some scientific technique description right there! "Fiddle with stuff, until it looks right-ish". ;)
Hahaha! I fiddle myself. But you have to do what works! And this works. :)
