A woman stares out at the sea

Title from Hem's "Half Acre", again.
We are stars
fixed and flowing
free in our bonds
Each of us luminous
filled with grace
and glory bound

Ok, one more photo. That's me! With my new super short hair cut! On top of Spencer Butte in Eugene, OR, laughing thanks to my awesome friends. Dave (my husband) really likes this photo, because he says it is a particularly accurate reflection of my usual state. Most of the time, when the camera is pointed at me I get all scrunchy and anxious and do not project my personality well. This is why distractingly hilarious friends are so important.
I'm going to a yoga retreat tomorrow, for the weekend. I'm very excited, although I'm really hoping I find it relaxing, since I don't think I did enough of that over school break! It's been a wonderful break, lots of time with friends and family, lots of really quality camera time - I'm very excited about a lot of the work I've done - but this afternoon was the first actual vegging I've done over the past two weeks.
I'm actually kind of considering, at the moment, not bringing my camera this weekend, and forcing myself to just focus on yoga, and doing nothing else. Maybe even lying on a bed with my eyes closed. In the MIDDLE OF THE DAY. Or better yet, on the grass under a tree. Hm.

Posting again because I might not have time tomorrow. And ok because I'm so excited about this shot and I can't wait any longer. There was a woman walking on the beach in either a nun's habit or a burka, I couldn't quite tell which, she was rather far away. It made for several dramatic shots, including this one, all of which I am really pleased with.

Title from Hem's "Half Acre", which is such an achingly lovely song, although I think the lyrics stand on their own:
I am holding half an acre
Torn from the map of Michigan
And folded in this scrap of paper
Is the land I grew in
Think of every town you've lived in
Every room you lay your head
And what is it that you remember
Do you carry every sadness with you
Every hour your heart was broken
Every night the fear and darkness
Lay down with you
A man is walking on the highway
A woman stares out at the sea
And light is only now just breaking
So we carry every sadness with us
Every hour our hearts were broken
Every night the fear and darkness
Lay down with us
But I am holding half an acre
Torn from the map of Michigan
I am carrying this scrap of paper
That can crack the darkest sky wide open
Every burden taken from me
Every night my heart unfolding

Where: Somewhere over Oregon, probably - this was on the approach to Eugene. If anyone knows what these mountains are, let me know!

Just got home - there will be more OR pictures coming up later, but maybe not until next week, my parents are coming to visit tomorrow, and then I'm off to a yoga retreat. In the meantime, I've got some other stuff I meant to post but didn't, so I'll be putting that up this week. Unless I get some time tomorrow morning. That's not impossible. I might, for example, not be able to exert enough self control to stop myself from doing picture stuff instead of things like cleaning, or errands.

More beach! I have some pictures from today as well (we went up Spencer Butte), but flickr/preview uploader is doing something weird, so I'm going to wait until I get home to post them.

I know it's the weekend, but I'm posting more stuff anyway. I can't wait to get back to a computer with lightroom and really go nuts with some of these! But for now, I'm just posting the ones that don't need any futzing with.

Glorious day today - this is my first trip to the PNW, and it is amazing. I love the landscape, the moss covered trees, the hills - even the architecture, I want to live in every other house I see around here. Anyway, we went to the beach (clearly), and it was fabulous. Brace yourselves for weeks and weeks of PNW beach pictures!

We're in Eugene! Seeing our wonderful friends who we haven't been able to see in YEARS. It's fabulous. We're heading to the coast at some point, and my camera and I can't wait. In the mean time, I'm taking many, many pictures of the most adorable dog ever, their American Eskimo puppy Rufus. Endless fun, which is soon to utterly defeat my 16gb memory card.

This was the morning of the first day of climbing in the Gunks this season! It was all up from this moment, if you can believe it - best day climbing ever. The weather was ideal, the climbs we did were fabulous, we walked back to the truck in the dark - perfection.

I love the colors in this. Her red-blonde fur looks so pretty with the silver green carpet. Ok, ok, and I also like pictures of my dog.

Title is from the same Florence and The Machine song, ("Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up)"). Ok, so I might have had this song on repeat for days. What?? It's a GREAT song! Don't you judge me.
And in the spring I shed my skin
And it blows away with the changing wind
The waters turn from blue to red
As towards the sky I offer it
This is a gift, it comes with a price
Who is the lamb and who is the knife
Midas is king and he holds me so tight
And turns me to gold in the sunlight

Even the cats love the weather - or at least, the new sun position. It brings the couch into full afternoon sunlight, which is apparently a glorious thing when you're a cat.
